An autumnal walk

So... my last blog entry was about how I loved it that spring was finally there (oops!), and all of a sudden, autumn has arrived already! A lot has happened since the last time I wrote; I finally graduated from university (YAY!) and I went to Paris and New York.
Right now I'm giving myself some time to figure out what I want, and what better way to think, than to have an autumnal walk in the woods.

I think that every season has something that makes me happy, but I truely believe that autumn is my absolute favorite season. I love the colours, the smells and the way it makes me feel cosy. It inspires me to do things and get creative!

What is your favorite season? Do you also share my love for autumn? I'd love to read about it in the comments.

I ♡ SPRING!

SPRING'S FINALLY HERE!!!

Oohh how I love spring. It's my favourite season, the birds sing, flowers bloom and my mood gets an instant power boost!
Over the past few months, I felt quite poopy. There wasn't any progress going on in my life and I felt like I was living in this big grey blur. But now the flowers are blooming and the temperature rises, I feel like I can take on the world again. I'm always amazed by how such a small change in season can make me feel brand new again, every single year. It's sparks me to be more active, more creative and to go out more!
So, guys! What are we waiting for? Let's go out and do the things we want to do, because.. IT'S SPRING!!

YESS! LET'S DO THIS!!

I'm stressed out!

Remember number 13 on my list of 25 things you didn't know about me? Yeah, that exact thing is annoying the *bleep* out of me! I'm having trouble sleeping for the last couple of nights because I just keep on overthinking everything I still need to do and problems I'm facing at the moment. Right now there's just a lot going on in my life

First I couldn't sleep because we had trouble finding a new place to live. We kept on getting rejected for apartments because we're still students and we don't have a lot of money to pay on rent. And in my opinion, these landlords are demanding way too high incomes for a relatively low rent. So I got a little stressed out about that, since we are forced to leave our current home at the 2nd of March. It's getting demolished...

BUT THEN! We finally found an apartement! We got lucky though, because also this landlord was doubting us for our income, but in the end he made up his mind and chose US to rent his appartment! Yay! I was so ecstatic! However, me being me, this resulted in sleepless nights because I wished I could move in immediately. In my head, the entire apartment is already furnished and decorated and looks so pretty!

Unfortunately, this happiness was soon to be interrupted by the organization from which we rent our current home. We're facing some issues which is beyond our responsibility, and they are not helping us whatsoever. Worse even, they're trying to make their problems ours. It makes me so mad! Yet again a reason for me to stay awake the entire night. Ugh!

I can't wait to move into our new apartment guys! I want all these problems to be over and just start with a new, pretty apartment. And get some sleep during the nights :)

Do you also have sleepless nights when something is going on in you're life? Or are you able to relax every night no matter what? If so, tell me your secret! Please! :D

busy, Busy, BUSY!

Hi guys! Some of you may have noticed that for the last few weeks I've been posting blogs on a daily basis, even though I used to post only on wednesday and sunday in the past. I had enough time to do this since I had a 'winter break' from uni and I just had a lot of free time.

This is sadly going to change from now on. Uni is starting again and I have to take up writing my bachelor thesis. And that's not all. My boyfriend and I found a new place to live! We're going to live in The Hague and it's a more permanent living space, instead of the anti-squatting houses I got used to over the past 4 years. I'm so excited to move there that I've actually had trouble sleeping the past couple of nights!

So, from now on, my days will be filled with writing, homework and packing my (ridiculous large collection of) stuff! I'll go back to my old routine when it comes to blogging; which means I'll post every wednesday and sunday.

I hope you all understand my decision.

25 Things you didn't know about me!

  1. I don't like peanutbutter Yuck!

  2. I'm afraid of swimming in lakes, oceans, seas.. whatever. If it's not a pool (or a bathtub), I'm not swimming in it.

  3. I'm obsessed with Loekie, the stuffed animal I got when I was born. He's the one thing I'd take if my house was to be on fire.

  4. Birds scare the hell out of me.

  5. I'm also scared of needles.

  6. I think flowers don't make a great gift. I mean.. they die.

  7. As a little kid, I looked like a boy because one day I decided to cut my own hair.

  8. I also ran away a lot. I climbed over fences and everything. What can a say.. a true adventurer maybe?

  9. I suffer from hypodontia... yes I'm missing a pair of teeth :'( Got fake ones though, don't be scared!

  10. I also suffer from lordosis (bad back)

  11. I'm not a big fan of ice cream, it's too cold!

  12. I have to eat a piece of candy after every meal. As a kind of dessert!

  13. I never really stress about stuff, but when I do, it's always at night!

  14. I hardly wear make-up. Sometimes only a little mascara.

  15. I can't stand messy houses. It makes me itchy.

  16. Normally I'm quite friendly and relaxed, but as soon as I get in a car, I turn into a screaming, short-tempered maniac

  17. Which is maybe why I don't like driving cars that much.

  18. I suck at reading books. It can take me ages to finish a book.

  19. Actually, I suck at reading in general. I always end up sleeping somehow.

  20. I really like studying though. When I was little, I created my own homework. Yes, I think I'm an alien.

  21. I don't like going out to party

  22. Which is maybe why I've never been drunk before.

  23. I only have short-term hobbies. Drawing, crocheting, painting.. whatever it is. After a few months I just have enough of it and I go on to the next hobby.

  24. I love the smell of gasoline

  25. I'm the worst in watching movies. I want to know how the movie ends before watching it. Same with books, I always read the last page before I begin reading.

Today I'll be in Vienna!

Schloss Belvedere Wien
Source
The moment is finally here! I'm going to see Vienna in all its glory for the coming 5 days! ...and eat a lot of sachertorte!

Sadly, it also means that I won't be posting any blogs during my stay. I decided to take a little break from my computer (me being fed up with school is a major contributing factor in this decision..Haha!).

But don't be sad, I'll be uploading pictures frequently on my instragram account, so if you like, go and check it out!

I will post new blogs as soon as possible after I come back!

See you soon!! Bye xo

Personal | The pros and cons of living in anti-squatting houses

Ever since I moved out of my parents house to study in Leiden, I've lived in 'anti-squatting houses'. Four years later, I still live in this type of house and as a student it was a great opportunity for me!

Pros

  • It's dirtcheap.
This is maybe the biggest pro about living the anti-squatting way of life; these houses are super cheap since they're scheduled to be demolished in the future because they don't meet the current building requirements any longer. To prevent houses from staying vacant up until that time, the owner lets people rent the houses for absurdly low prices.

  • You have your own house.
As a student I didn't have to live in a filthy dormitory. The idea of living there scared me so much, so the cheap living spaces you get by living in anti-squatting houses was perfect. I could live to my own standards. No drama with roommates!

  • It's an adventure!
You get to live in the weirdest places! Former schools, offices and even prisons are no exceptions. My first place was an office with a huge transit warehouse attached to it!

Cons

  • A lot of moving around
Whenever you sign up to live in anti-squatting houses, you have to be aware of the fact that you can be thrown out any day. Like I said, these houses are often scheduled for demolishment or some other project, and if the owner thinks the time is there to start the proces, you have to move. In four years, I have moved two times already and at this moment I am looking for a new place again.

  • Don't expect beautiful houses
Now I don't say that there aren't any great houses to live in, but most of the houses are old and often partly deteriorated. In 'I don't like my house..' you can read the frustration I had in when I moved into my current house. My first house didn't even have insulation so it was friggin' cold in the winter and super hot in the summer. But unlike many students I had a living space of 60 m2. Which is a lot compared to Leiden's average student rooms.

My first two houses have been demolished already, and my current house won't exist any more in a few months. So let's go on to the next house!!

More info about the anti-squatting way of life in the Netherlands? Check these websites.

Do you live the 'anti-squatting' way of life, or have you done this in the past? If so, what are your experiences?
If not, would you be up to living like this? I'd love to read about it down below!

Personal | My little hometown

Even though I really like living in the city, there is nothing better than visiting my parents in my hometown Eibergen. It's so quiet here. No tourists, no million bicycles and no stressed people.

Eibergen is located in the Eastern part of the Netherlands, close to the border of Germany. Which meant that monthly trips to Germany for some cheap groceryshopping were very common in our household (HAHA!)

Eibergen has a lot of nature. Perfect to take a walk, cycle or go jogging. And.. to be honest, I never took advantage of this, which is a shame! I guess the saying; 'You don't know what you've got, until it's gone' goes perfect with this situation. Ah well..

Personal | 'Wind back' Wednesday: A day at the Efteling

A little while ago, I found some really nice pictures of the Efteling which we visited in January 2013. Yess 2013.. almost 2 years ago... Anyways, I think the pictures are great and they are still worth sharing with you guys.
Even though the temperatures plummeted to Northpole levels that day, this visit to the Efteling was my favorite one so far! The snow made the park so magical and winter wonderland-ish!

Travel | My travel wishlist for 2015

This year I hope to finally graduate from university after one year of delay. But then what.. I have no idea what I should do after that! So I figured that I'm going to take a break from studying and explore my interests and the world.

Here are some places I hope to visit in 2015:

Canal Reflection, Brugge, Belgium. This is one of my most favorite places to visit. I really enjoyed the Chocolate Festival there and of course the lace shops!
Source
  • Bruges. My dad went there with his buds a while ago, and he really loved the city. He showed me great pictures of the historic centre and I got an instant sensation of jealousy! I have a soft spot for historical cities so I must go there sometime too!
Dunnottar Castle, Scotland. A hidden wonder. http://adventuresuncorked.com/
Source
  • Scotland. I have already been to England and Ireland.. so I should also go to Scotland right? My preference goes out to the rural areas of Scotland, more than the cities such as Edinburgh, because these areas are like a timemachine through which you go back to the middle ages.

  • Last, but not least, I want to explore more of my homecountry The Netherlands. There are still so many places I haven't seen! Such as Groningen, Friesland and a big part of the Wadden Islands (shame on me!!).
So there are places I hope to visit this year, but there are also places I already planned to visit!

  • Vienna. At the end of January I will be visiting Vienna for a few days. I can't wait guys! When I think of Vienna, I see this fairytale city with majestic buildings and cute little streets. Many pictures will be taken haha!!

My New York, i love you
Source
  • NYC. Coming June I'm going to New York Citeeeehh!! For years and years I wanted to go to this enourmous city which 'never sleeps' and I'm finally going there!
Have you ever been to any of the places I just told about? Got any recommendations? I'd love to hear about them in the comments below!

Thank you! x

Personal | Some changes...

Oh lordy! It's already December 31st... Which means a fresh new year is starting as of tonight! So.. yeah, as corny as it may sound, I came up with a few new year's resolutions. I never really had the need to have these resolutions, but this year I thought it would be very beneficial for me to try it.

Get skinny
I'm not really thinking of losing a lot of weight, but I could eat a lot less candy and snacks. Especially the last few weeks I've been overeating big time. Oopsie..

Gain some stamina
Since I'm trying to lose a few pounds, I should also start exercising a little more. During the spring, I already started running, but then, one day I fell down the stairs and hurt my tailbone really bad! Running was just too painful. Quickly after that, we had to move house quite suddenly because me and my boyfriend live in 'anti squatting houses'. So yeah, we had little time left to run. But I'll start running again very soon. Really...

Spend more time with friends
I've noticed that I haven't seen my friends that much the past year. Such a shame, because being with friends is the best! So for the coming year, I'm determined to spend more time with my friends.

Do you have any new year's resolutions or do you think it's a clichĂ©?
I wish you all the best for next year! Hope you're having an awesome time tonight!!

Byee! xo

Personal | I'm scared ...

The last couples of weeks I haven't been feeling well. No.. I'm not sick or anything (pfew). I'm just in this period of my life where I have no clue of what to do. I'm feeling chaotic, unmotivated and I lack energy.

At first I thought it was because of school. Right from the beginning of this school semester I noticed that I kept on forgetting my deadlines and that I had no clue of how to start with my Bachelor thesis. It was just complete chaos in my head. I made appointments with my mentor and talked about it with my fellow students. But even now, a few months later, I still feel unmotivated even though I sort of know now how to deal with my thesis.

Then it struck me.. I lack direction, I have no aim in life. For the first time in more than 20 years I have absolutely no idea of what is going to happen after this coming summer. Hopefully at that moment, I have finished my studies.. but then what? I have no idea what to do. Get a job? Continue studying? I feel this pressure that I'm expected to know what I want in the future.. that everything I do at this moment is for something bigger in life. I feel ashamed that I have no answer ready when people ask me what I'm planning on doing in the future.

And then there is this other tiny detail, something that has controlled me my entire life. I'm scared to step out of my comfort zone. I always have these wishes and dreams, but I never dare to actually take action and make them happen. I want to travel, improve on my photography, make Youtube clips, meet awesome people all over the world, improve my Japanese by actually talking to Japanese people!! But there is always this little voice in my head; "what will others think of me?", "what will my parents think of me?", "what if this is just a momentary thing and you end up having regrets?". I keep telling myself that I should stop worrying about that, but.. until now it hasn't really worked (sigh).

I'm sorry for this blogpost and this has depressed you, but I know I'm not the only one and I'm hoping that we're able to help eachother. On sunday there will be a way more positive blogpost!! :)

Thank you! xo

Personal | Winter Addictions

Winter is coming , no actually its still here kinda lol spring is coming hehe just now making my Winter board hehe :)
Source

It's already December guys! Wow...
Because the days are getting colder and darker lately, I have been confronted with the fact that I have a few addictions which tend to develop whenever winter gets near..

I need to have candles.. everywhere and all the time.

And except for regular candles, I also need to have scented candles.

Tea.. I can't drink enough tea when it's cold. Most of the time I just drink it because it's a hot beverage and not so much because I like it (is that weird?)

Chocolate.. and homemade chocolate milk with marshmallows. I. LOVE. IT.

Decorations. Whenever Christmas starts peeking around the corner I feel the urge to decorate my room with anything 'Christmassy'.

Whenever it's getting cold, I start to wear layers upon layers of clothing. Sweaters, socks and warm slippers are my favorites.

Do you have any winter addictions?

Personal | Anti-bucket list

People always seem to be talking about their bucket list, a list of actions they think they should do before they die!
BUT.. in my opinion there should also be something like the 'anti-bucket' list, things you hope you never have to do before you die.
So for today I thought I could lay out some of the things which are on my anti-bucket list.

I hope I will never...
1. Run out of tea (same goes for chocolate and candy)
2. Eat spiders and/or insects.
3. Eat a whole fish (the head & fins just creep me out!)
4. Sit home without a job
5. Get an incurable disease
6. NOT go to Japan anymore
7. Not travel in general
8. Lose my beloved stuffed animal (I love you Loekie)
9. Be drunk (getting tipsy is okay, I guess)
10. Lose my lipbalm! (Oh god no!!)

Pfewww! That was it I think! It's not a lot..  I noticed it was much harder to come up with things I hope I'll never have to do rather than things I DO hope I'll ever do.

What's on your anti-bucket list?

Personal | I suffer from...

Helloooo!!!

So today I decided to talk about something that has been a part of my entire life and since there was a little 'incident' the other day I decided to just put it out there..

I never really thought about it that much, but one time, when I had to make these official photos for my passport (you know.. the ones you can't smile in), I found something wasnt quite right in my picture, it looked like I just killed something or someone (or at least was planning to)...

So what's my problem?
I suffer from... bitchy restingface.
*sigh*

Wanna see it? Okay.. but trust me, I'm not as bitchy as I look! REALLY!

Brace yourself!

One... two..... THREE!!

WHAAA!!!

Yes folks, my face scares people away! or.. actually, it gives me unwanted attention.

My entire life people have been asking me why I look so mad, or have been telling me to smile from the other side of the room by using some sort of sign language.
I can't help it guys! This is just my face!

So anyway.. what happened the other day, you think? Let me tell you.
I was sitting in the train, with my boyfriend just minding my own business. The train just arrived at a station and this man walked by on the platform and for a split second our eyes met. I turned my eyes away fast but this man decided to stop, knock on the window and at first gave me a very angry look, but then he folded this face into this overly forced smile and made me do the same!
.....I was dumbfounded! I gave him a quick little smile and he replied with two thumbs up and just walked away!

uhm.. what just happened? Do I look that angry that this man had the uncontrollable urge to correct me?

Does this ever happen to you? Please tell me that I'm not the only one.

Bye xx

Yes, multiple times, but the last time was maybe a year ago.. maybe even longer. In my teenage years I had a lot of trouble falling asleep.

14. How many siblings do you have?
I have one younger sister and one younger brother. I love them both so much!!

15. Do you have a desktop computer or a laptop?
I own a brandnew ASUS laptop.

16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
I'll be turning 24!.. I'm getting old people! I should seriously consider starting anti-wrinkle cream or something.

17. Do you wear contacts or glasses?
None of them, I'm so lucky to own a pair of great-working eyes!

18. Do you color your hair?
Occasionally I do. As a matter of fact, I just colored it a few weeks ago.. I got tired of my own boring haircolor so I colored it to a deep brown color.

19. What are you planning to do today?
Even though it's a sunday, I'm going to work today. I work at a shop where you can buy really cute and gorgeous accessories. I absolutely love working there, my collegues are the best, and some of the customers have the best stories to tell.

20. When was the last time you cried?
Uhm... I have no idea. I don't cry that much. It must have been a really long time ago.

I don't really have a favorite, but as long as it has mozzarella in it I'm happy.

22. Which do you prefer? Hamburgers or cheeseburgers?
A little bit of both, but I think I like hamburgers the best.

23. Hav you ever had an all-nighter?
Noooo! Never! I'm physically not capable of doing an all-nighter. After around 8 p.m. I get really tired and I can't concentrate on anything. I'd rather get up at 5 a.m. and start working early. Yes.. I'm a morning person! :)

24. What is your eye color?
My eye color is a mixture of brown and green.

25. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke?
Oh yeah! I really do. I like Coke a lot better than Pepsi, Pepsi tastes.. fake? I don't know, I don't like it. Haha.

Personal | My first pumpkin!

It's almost Halloween!
So get your creepy outfits and fake spiderwebs!!

Well... here in the Netherlands we unfortunately don't really celebrate halloween, which is a pity because I really, really like halloween decorations. It makes everything cosier somehow..
*lets out a little sob*

Anyways! This year I decided to carve my very own and very first pumpkin!
I've never done it before and had no idea of how to do it, nevertheless I'm kinda pleased with the result.

Tadadadaaaaa...!!

I'll definitely carve another pumpkin next year and try something which is more bold..
but for this year I love this little plain Jack!

Have you ever carved a pumpkin?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Personal | Guilty Pleasures

Chocolate ... White milk & dark !!! www.14u-fashion.com loves them ALL

Hey guys!

Happy sunday!

For today I wanted to talk about something that anyone can relate to (I hope), 'cause anyone has guilty pleasures... right? I know I have lots of them, so I thought it would be fun for you to read some of my guilty pleasures.

Are you ready?
1...2...3...
Here we goooooo!!

1. I'm not sure if the first one actually is a guilty pleasure, but I'm gonna tell you anyway. I.. still sleep with a stuffed animal that I was given when I was born. It's a little white bunny and at age 23 I'm still so attached to it that I'm not sure if it's even normal.. Once, I almost had to cry (I was 21) because I forgot to pack him in my bag for the weekend, because I was going to my parents (yes, I already lived on my own). Please anyone tell me that I'm not the only one!!

2. Now, I'm also a little embarrased to say this, but I really love the song "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj. I can play it over and over again without getting sick of it. It's such a catchy song and I may or may not have done effort to remember the lyrics by heart. *big fat blush!*

3. I have a weak spot for those €1,- burgers at the McDonalds, you know what I mean, those little burgers you get in happy meals. And no, I do NOT order happy meals, luckily you can buy them seperately. I've got no idea why I love these burgers, since it really consists only of two buns, one poorly baked piece of meat and maybe one or two slices of pickles. But everytime I eat it I just feel happy inside, every bite feels so good.

4. Maybe one of my biggest guilty pleasures has to be Nutella, or.. not just Nutella but chocolate spread in general. And it's not the the fact that I always spread a very, VERY thick layer of this on my slice of bread that makes me tingle inside, no what I do way too often, is just scooping a very big spoon of chocolate and I put it directly in my mouth. I.LOVE.IT!

This was it guys!
Do you have any guilty pleasures? I would love to read them! *wink*
